(16.4.2006) dist-upgrade Problem solved if you dont need ISDN
Please get the new fix-script wget -Nc http://kanotix.com/files/fix-xorg7.sh and run it after dist-upgrade
Please no dist-upgrade today [04 15 2006] as the X-Org packages in SID are not complete!
- [update 04 14 2006] Xorg 7.0 is in SID!
- WPA-supplicant
- AMD 64 repositories changed
- ATI X1000-series now supported by Xorg 7.0
Xorg 7.0 is in Sid now.
since 04-11-06 Xorg 7.0 is in Sid.
We have done a lot of testing by now, and most problems are solved.
Whoever feels like upgrading, can do so. Who dont feel comfortable, may wait a few days.
In the end everybody will have to upgrade, or do no upgrades and installing apps at all. To put xorg 6.8/6.9 on hold as before, wont work anymore.
And here are a few facts on the situation as is for today:
Xorg 7.0 can be installed as follows:
as usual in init 3:
# update-scripts-kanotix.sh
# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
then:
# wget http://kanotix.com/files/fix-xorg7.sh
# sh fix-xorg7.sh
then:
install ati/nvidia :
# install-nvidia-debian.sh
or:
# http://kanotix.com/files/install-fglrx-debian.sh ,
rm -rf /usr/src/fglrx*; apt-get remove --purge fglrx-driver; m-a a-i fglrx
# fix-fonts -e
Whoever has upgraded by now, should do another dist-upgrade now to fix a few small problems, (like gtk apps only starting with standard pointer)
So far there is no fix for a little bug, where infobash (from console or in irc-client) restarts x . (you could say, its a feature, not a bug)
[edit 04-14: whoever is annoyed by the infobash-bug should use kernel 2.6.16.5-kanotix-1.
Whoever doesnt like the look of his fonts after upgrade,should do:
#dpkg-reconfigure-fontconfig-config
(autohinting, automatic, use bitmaps)
A new feature is that ATI´s x1000-series are now supported.
After a dist-upgrade it can happen that the WPA-encryption wil not work anymore.
In that case you can find in our Wiki help. More information can also be found in the directory /usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant
The AMD-64 repositories from debian are now in the normal sid repos.
