Hello all:

It seems that WLAN is not enabled at boot but only when you login via KDM. I would like to find a way to enable WLAN to connect in console in init 3 and cannot find an easy way to do this. Can anyone help?

Hi,

please show us the content of your file: /etc/network/interfaces

What do you want exactly? An automatic connection to the wireless network or do you want to connect manually (typing in the console)?

Did you try (as root) typing "ifup wlan0" ?

As the secrets are stored in your home profile this is not possible with this version of network manager. Usually you can use text mode with wlan as long as kde is running. Why do you require text mode without X?

Was looking for that feature so I can do updates in text console or if I need to use a text IRC client in event I cannot start X

Anyway thanks for your help, I discovered that I cannot do this with NM so I purged NM and replaced it with Wicd...that works well for me now
