Software - Quicktime plays but no sound judland - 08.01.2005, 19:17 Uhr Titel: Quicktime plays but no sound
Any ideas as to why a .mov file plays but with no sound?
I executed the install-codecs.sh script, but I've got no sound. Other files (.mpg, .mp3, etc.) play fine.
I've got X-Fix(2) running.

Hi,
i use Kaffeine with xine and installed codecs from kanotix scriptpage.
Playing mov files Kaffeine shut out problems with loading QTMLCLIENT.dll
So kaffeine was showing the movie without sound.
I did as follows and it work's now.
Download QTMLCLIENT.dll from:
http://members.fortunecity.com/birbilis/QT4Delphi/
just by clicking one of those links.
Unzip the folder and cp the dll in your win32 codec folder.
That's it.
Nevertheless i have some move files too which don't play
sound. Maybe depends on the download or something else.
Greetings

You have to uninstall any other plugins that claim to be able to play these from your Firefox plugin directory first.
To convince yourself you are using the right plugin for these file types, do about:plugins in the Firefox address bar. The plugin listed at the top of that list that claims to be able to play a particulat file type is the one actually doing the playback.
You are probably still using the kaffeine plugin, or some other plugin.
A short lesson in what I have learned.
VLC, Xine and Kaffeine plugins and all others = crap for streaming media
