          | I was just going to ask about that...
I've just installed 2006 RC4. This system has ATI Radeon X1400 graphics at 1280x800. I'd like to get video acceleration and the true resolution (instead of compressed 1280x1024).

I downloaded the install-radeon-debian.sh script and tried running it as root (from a command line), but it says "Command not found". Any ideas?

          | Yes, I updated the scripts first.
But hey, it works now! Although I couldn't run the script manually, the GUI video-driver updater worked great. I'll describe what I did, in case any other non-gurus want to do it:

 1. "K" menu > Control Center

 2. In the menu at left: Kanotix > Display > click "Administrator Mode" button, then enter your root password.

 3. If you want to change your screen resolution, and your system's screen uses a standard resolution (e.g. 1024x768 or 1280x1024), just choose your resolution from the "Select Resolution drop-down list. Otherwise, select the "Use user-defined resolution" option button, then enter your resolution in the text box (for example, mine was 1280x1024).

 4. In "Default Color-Depth", select "24-bit". (I did that just because the message said I must do that to use the ATI driver!)

 5. Click the Drivers tab, then click the "ATI (fglrx)" tab. Select the "Install" option button.

 6. Click OK. The system switches to a full-screen text console and downloads and installs the current ATI driver.

When that was done, I also ran the "fix-fonts" script (as root). Looks good!

          | Don't use glxgears as it will probably lock up your system !!!
 Use

 glxgears -iacknowledgethatthistoolisnotabenchmark

 or

 glxgears -printfps

To find out if direct rendering is working use

 glxinfo|grep direct

 Other useful commands

 glxinfo
 glxgears -info
 fglrxinfo

          | I gave it a go on a small hard drive I up dated the script
then run it while i was out so I donot know if there was any problems

When starting the computer I got the error that the screen was out of range
so I used the live cd and got it to boot at 800*600 res (by comenting out some lines as seen below)
The other problem I got was the screen was washed out so that I could just read it to the extent that I had to adjust the monitor so that it was just usable
 I am using kano 2005-4

this is some of the xorg.conf file
