          | I m a new kanotix/linus user. I have installed kanotix 2006 easter rc4 and i can't use the network with PCI WiFi card, a belkin f5d7001 rev 03, with chip broadcom BCM4306 rev03.
I have tried to use any kind of drive with ndiswrapper, the only drive that i wrap with succes is one called BCMWL5A.inf.
if I use the GUI of ndiswrapper that is in kanotix i have an error:
"The ndiswrapper module has been loaded but there is no new device. Perhaps Ndiswrapper is not working woth your driver files ", i have tried all the drives that i have find on internet, also many that work at ather user.
If i use the command line,
 ndiswrapper -i ----------> all ok
ndiswrapper -l ----------> bcmwl5a driver installed hardware present
ndiswrapper -m ---------> some error (say me that: module configuration contains directive install pci:v00001260d00003890sv00001113sd0000EE03bc*sc*i* /sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper
;you should delete thatmodprobe config already contains alias directive )
 modprobe ndiswrapper ------------->  nothing error

But when i go to config the card, there isn't any netwotk card.

 In etc/network/interface there isn't wlan0, there isn't eth0
if i use kanotix GUI, it say me that there isn't any network card

 Please help me

          | Try to to de-install linux-wlan-ng and linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.6.11.kanotix-11 (or a newer version of it) as both are written for PRISM chipsets and may interfer with ndiswrapper module. Check for other "alias" lines which load another module than ndiswrapper for wlan0. See also http://kanotix.com/index.php?module=pnW ... dcom1450en

          | I partially resolve the problem, insteed of ndiswarapper -m, I used Update-modules -f and Ndiswrapper -da
 Now ndiswrapper -l give me
 BCMWL5 drive installed Hardware present

Now in etc/network/interface there is wlan0, and iwconfig give me wlan0.

Bue now there is e new problem.
During netcardconfig i have a error.
The wifi config ok, iwrite the ESSID, THE CHANNEL, MANGED MODE, and ENCRIPTION KEY, but during dhcp i have an error:
wlanctl-ng operation nor supported (or something such as this) and the card don't recieve any IP, the can't connect to the router.
I try the wep encriptio and the wpa encription.

          | You probably are near to a working wlan card.
Some users (myself included) had problems to configure broadcom wlan cards with netcardconfig.
The first thing I recommend is to do the wlan-configuration manually by editing /etc/network/interfaces (see example in the wiki). The second thing is to check which modules get loaded when "wlan0" is used - maybe there are still other reasons why wlanctl-ng is used in the interface-up process.
 What is the result of
 >> dpkg -l | grep wlan
 on your computer?

          | Do (as root) to de-install packages:
 >>apt-get remove linux-wlan-ng
 >>apt-get remove linux-wlan-ng-modules-2.6.16.16-kanotix-1

The result for dpkg -l | grep wlan will afterwards show these packages with an "rc" tag instead of "ii".

Note: Another possibility to avoid all this ndiswrapper stuff is to use a very new kernel (2.6.17) with support for some (all ?) broadcom wlan chips. But as I have no experience with this new kernel, I can't give any suggestions for this way to get the problem solved.

          | Ok, lets have a deeper look onto the problem. Could you please post completly the results of the follwing commands:

 >>ifconfig
 >>iwconfig
 >>ndiswrapper -l
 >>modprobe -l | grep ndis
 >>modprobe -l | grep prism
 >>ifup wlan0

and further on the content of your file /etc/network/interfaces .
Is there at the same time another network (LAN) interface active?

          | Ok, the result of "ifup" shows, that your PC tries to get an IP address from the router (and doesn't get it).
The "modprobe" results show, that a ndiswrapper is loaded (good!) and that also a prism module is loaded (at least not necessary, in the worst case an indicator for a problem).
I assume that the former problems with wrong modules ("wlanctl-ng operation not supported") do not exist any more, as "ifup" issues DHCP-requests. (And also this "prism" module is just a waste of memory without causing a problem, could be temporarly resolved by "modprobe -r prism54").

Your /etc/network/interfaces shows, that you're trying to run WPA encryption, which is a really good thing for your privacy. For getting started and learning step by step it's not the easiest way.

The first question is, if your router is able to answer DHCP requests (many routers do so, just to be sure have a look into the manual and the configuration of your router).

The second question is this "pre-up" line in /etc/network/interfaces. The option "-Dwext" commands wpa_supplicant to use a wext driver. I think, this is wrong, you should use instead "-Dndiswrapper"

The third question is, if parameters like "essid" are posted at the right place. I have written them all into this wpa_supplicant configuration file - maybe your method works also.

The fourth question is, if your parameters for your WLAN card fit all to the characteristics of your WLAN access point.

To deal with my questions 2 and 3, you could just write all these defintions in /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf along to my example in the wiki http://kanotix.com/index.php?module=pnWikka&tag=Broadcom1450en

The fourth question is the most difficult one, as the right configuration depends on your WLAN card AND your access point. Maybe you don't have think about this, after fixing the above mentionend issues.

If problems persist, could you please post your acces point model name and the /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf file (don't forget to blank out your private "psk") to give you further advices.

 Zitat:
when win is geting an IP via dhcp, linux should know, from which dhcp-server
/etc/dhcpc/resolv.conf looks like

 search
nameserver 192.168.2.1 # your router IP

without this dhcp does not know, where and how to search

I doubt this. Doesn't the DHCP client get his DHCP server by an broadcast call to 255.255.255.255 ?? I think the nameserver entry in the mentionend file has another meaning ...
