Setting the root password or becoming root
How to become root to change the configuration files
In order to change system settings in Linux, you must be
root,
the superuser. There are many ways to become root. Here is one for beginners, as "Professionnels" don't usually read here :-), who work with "vi".
1.Open a terminal or console (in the system menu)!
2. Enter:
su -
"your Root password"
kedit
Having done that, you can now change with the < open file > ANY file on the system. But you should be extremely careful. A wrong letter in the wrong file, and your system does not boot anymore. For beginners, the details can be very tricky!
